1. ADVANTAGE OF GOING OVER TO FRANCE BY FERRIES:

    • You drive your own car or your own motorhome to France on ferry (motorhome can’t go in the train)!

    Driving in France: Watch out the legal requirement, speed limit ...

    • A self-drive gives you the freedom to explore central Paris and the Ile de France region.

    • Allow bicycles and pedestrians: Let them know that you have a bicycle when you book.

    • Very popular way of travelling especially from the United Kingdom: it’s like a mini cruise. Some ferries have restaurants (dining one!), cinema, shopping and cabin!

    Passport (without Schengen Visa for UK and Irland ), driving licence for overseas travel are compulsory.

    The UK, whilst in the EU, has not signed to the Schengen treaty which allows travel to the neighbouring countries who have signed to it without passport checks. So your passports will definitely be checked both ways.

    Pets are allowed (not in Eurostar) (older than 3 month): you have to pay for them. Needs a vaccination certificate and a health certificate from Veterinary within 5 days.

    Dogs must be vaccinated againts rabbies at least 30 days before entering in France. The jabs must have been given in the last 12 months.

2. How to get your ferry to France?

Booking ferries to France is the best way to avoïd the disappointment of having to wait around to get to France.

If you don't wish to make a reservation, be sure you're plenty early to the ferry terminal, especially if it's a holiday weekend.

Ferry from Poole to France or ferry to Roscoff in France from Plymouth are not the easiest way if you are going to Disneyland Paris.

Porthmouth is the best with Dover.

Ferries to France from Southampton: Does’nt exist. From Southampton, you can only go to Isle of wight.

2. Ferry to France from Dover

From Dover, you can reach 2 differents terminales in France: Calais and Dunkerque.

Ferries to Boulogne: From the 5th september 2010, there is no more Route between Dover and Boulogne.

4. WHERE CAN YOU FIND CHEAPEST FERRY TO FRANCE?

Tips to find the cheapest tickets for your ferry to France:

    • Booking off peak, in advance and at unpopular hours.

    • Day trips are cheaper than if you go for several days.

    • Sailing during the early or late hours is generally cheaper than a day crossing, especially between 1 am and 4am.

    • Whether you are alone or you have passengers in the car, the tickets price will be the same: you are allowed up to six persons in a private vehicle for the same price!

    • Do bear in mind that timewise in France is an hour ahead of UK when you plan your day and buy your tickets.

5. How to get a ferry from London to France?

Not from London but from one of the ports in the South-East of England: shortest crossing is Dover to Calais which takes about an hour (details just above). London to Dover takes about 90 minutes to drive.

If you are landing at Heathrow, it’s easier to take another flight. You can arrive in 4 differents Paris airports.

6. What’s cheaper the eurostar or a ferry to france?

• From London-St Pancreas, it’ easy to take the eurostar: 3 hours later you are in central Paris (Gare du Nord): don't have to worry about parking or having your car vandelised.

Then take the RER B. Here all the information of your journey between Gare du Nord and Disneyland Paris.

• Book 5-6 months in advance you'll have cheaper eurostar tickets.

Make sure, if you're able, to go out on the deck and experience (at least some of) the voyage from outside.

It's exhilarating!
